Back to the elephant in the room.... How do I get ahead of schedule? The following image enables you to get ahead of schedule and stay ahead of schedule. Start in box #1 get everything done that must be done for today. Then without hesitation move on to box #2. Get things done that must be done over the next few days. If you get to box #2 and stay focused on tomorrows todos, you will very rarely end back in box #1. One key skill that is required to pull this off is to allow yourself to politely say no to things that show up in box #3. Someone is trying to influence your priority scheme and you just have to say no. Then we come to box #4. Stay away from total time wasters unless your box #2 is empty.
There are three rules that make the scheme work effectively.
Only Schedule your time to be 65% full. That requires14 hours of your work week be unscheduled. This allows for total surprises to be fit into the scheme.
Work above the line, operate in box #1 and box #2 ( preferably box #2). Don't fall prey to someone else's false priority scheme, it's not yours, it's theirs. Stay focused.
Sharpen the saw, take care of you, sleep well, eat healthy and exercise.
